Many Roots Collective

How we treat each other

Community Guidelines

These guidelines exist to protect the people in this space — especially those who are most vulnerable. They are not bureaucracy. They are care made visible.

Code of Conduct

Every person who participates in Many Roots Collective — online or in person — agrees to these standards.

Treat every person with dignity.

Regardless of where someone is in their journey — questioning, deconstructing, fully secular, or still figuring it out — they deserve to be treated with respect. Mockery, condescension, and dismissiveness have no place here.

No harassment of any kind.

This includes but is not limited to: sexual harassment, targeted personal attacks, deliberate misgendering, threats, and sustained hostile behavior. One warning may be given at organizer discretion. Serious violations result in immediate removal.

Protect member privacy.

Many of our members have not publicly disclosed their secular identity to family, employers, or their broader community. Never share, hint at, or disclose another member's participation without their explicit consent. This is non-negotiable.

Debate ideas, not people.

We welcome honest disagreement about philosophy, ethics, science, and meaning. We do not welcome personal attacks dressed up as intellectual argument. Challenge the idea. Respect the person.

Make space for everyone.

Be mindful of how much space you take up in conversations — especially in group settings. Actively include people who are quieter. Ask questions. Listen as much as you speak.

No proselytizing.

This is a secular space. Attempting to re-convert members, recruit for religious organizations, or persistently promoting religious belief to members who have not asked for it is not appropriate here.

Report concerns to an organizer.

If you witness or experience behavior that violates these guidelines, please reach out to an organizer directly — through the Facebook group or the contact form on this site. Reports are handled with discretion.

Our commitment

LGBTQIA+ Affirming Space

Many Roots Collective is explicitly and unconditionally affirming of LGBTQIA+ identities. This is not a neutral position — it is a commitment. Every person, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression, is fully welcome here. Behavior that contradicts this commitment is grounds for removal.

Privacy Commitments

We take member privacy seriously. Here is what we commit to:

Membership is confidential.

We will never publicly identify members of this group without their consent. The Facebook group is private. Event locations are shared only with members.

We don't sell or share your data.

Any information you share with us — your name, email, or how you found us — is used only to communicate with you about the group. It is never sold, shared with third parties, or used for any other purpose.

You can leave at any time.

If you want to be removed from our contact list or the Facebook group, simply let us know. We will remove you promptly and without question.

Photos and recordings require consent.

No photos or recordings of members will be taken at events without explicit consent. If you are photographed and later want the image removed, we will remove it.

Enforcement

Organizers have the final say on conduct matters. Violations may result in a warning, temporary suspension, or permanent removal from the group — at organizer discretion based on severity. We aim to be fair, but we will always prioritize the safety of the community over the comfort of someone who has violated these guidelines.

These guidelines are a living document. As our community grows, we will revisit and refine them — with input from members.
